About Balnault Farm Shop & Butchery

Farm Online Shop Open Summer 2022!

Balnault farm is run by 3rd generation farmer Neil and his wife Helen Fraser. The farm has been in the family for over 70 years. On the farm we have approximately 400 cheviot cross breeding ewes, 50 suckler cows, a growing herd of rare breed Berkshire pigs and Neil is re introducing Native Aberdeen angus back to the farm which is what his grandfather had at Balnault.

We have been attending farmers market since 2018 with our outdoor reared; rare breed Berkshire pork, and seasonal Cheviot lamb. This year we hope to have our first supply of beef available. Our animals are all home grown and mature slowly to ensure the very best quality in rare breed and native meat for our customers from our gate to your plate!

Neil runs the farm with help from farm worker Grant with the focus on ensuring the finest quality livestock for the onsite farm butchery.
Our pork comes from Berkshire pigs, which are bred and reared on our farm. They are allowed to grow slowly to build up a good layer of fat which is where the delicious flavour comes from. Our customers love the taste of our pork as it is very pure, clean and tender.
Our lamb comes from Cheviot sheep. They typically fend for themselves on our hills foraging on wild grazing with unforgiving conditions most of the time, this all makes for tremendous succulent lamb.
